Who is an Older Person?
According to the National Policy for Older persons in Uganda, Older Persons are defined as those aged 60 years and above.
MEMBERSHIP
Membership of Association is by application to the board of Directors on fulfillment of the conditions set thereof and on payment of a nominal registration fee.
CATEGORIES OF MEMBERSHIP
1. Ordinary members
These are organizations/groups encouraged in promoting the interest and care of older persons.
2. Hononary Member
These are persons in their individual capacity who demonstrate interest and identify themselves with the cause and aspirations of the Association
ACHIEVEMENTS
- URAA is registered and recognized as a national NGO caring for older persons in Uganda.
- Has an estabilshed and functional secretariat located at Kireka-Namugongo
- Has mobilized resources, which have benefited a number of older persons' programmes and projects from CORDAID, HAI, SIDA, BIG LOTTERY, CESVI and local well wishers.
- Since inception, URAA has inroduced in Uganda the observance and celebration of 1st October which is recognized internationally as the Day for Older Persons.
- Substantial advocacy work has been carried out and URAA appreciates the government's response of establishing a department for handling older persons issues and passing of the National Policy for older Persons in Uganda.
- URAA is included on the Social Protection Task force to monitor targeting of older persons in the planned social protection programmes as one of the vulberable groups in Uganda.
- The Ministry of Health has included in its National Minimum Health Care Package (NMHCP) specific drugs for older persons's related ailments at Lower Referral Health Centre.
