- Ageing, fellowship and selflessness
5.0 Rationale
URAA was founded in 1991 by a group of committed Ugandans after realizing that;
- there is a weakening system of the traditional extended family by socio-economcal changes which has left many older persons with no proper care, isolated and lonely;
- there is an increased burden of caring for their orphaned grandchildren coupled with physical weaknesses caused by the process of ageing;
- there is increased poverty due to loss of productivity as a result of old age and lack of care;
- there is a belief that older persons are nolonger useful to society.
